Regan Forrest replied to Des Griffin's discussion Social History exhibitions - trophies or reflections of the meaning of Australia
"The power of the authentic is in the real object, not the replica. And it is also the case that true stories carry a power that fiction can't match. This would be taken as axiomatic by most museum professionals. But is that how people at large…"

"This article was briefly discussed on the CAN-talk list, but didn't provoke anywhere near as much discussion as I thought it would. I think the article challenges a lot of assumptions and I'd be interested in what colleagues think - is…"

Thanks Regan. I bumped into Rachael Elliot at the forum who I have met through Sue and are hopefully going to do an exhibition at Beaumont House if the grant comes through. Rachael said she passed on my details to you and I tried to come over to speak to you but I did not want to interrupt your conversation. To be honest I do not know what you are involved in, as Rachael did not elaborate, so if you think it is worthwhile that we meet up and I can run through what I do then I would be very happy to do that.
