It seems to me that the pervasive "grants culture" across Australia has inspired museum people to expend their energy developing exhibitions et al. I believe that this culture of having a showpiece comes at expense of learning, caring and nurturing the materials heritage of our nation.
Recently the cry "there are more museums per head of population in Australia than in any other nation " has been touted. Rubbish! FACT There are as ,many, or more, square miles per community in Australia than most national in the world, and we are responsible for recording their cultural heritage - black, white or brindle.
The cost of maintaining these collections & stories is the people power as described in he National Standards.
