Museum conference coming to capital

National Museum director Andrew Sayers announced yesterday a major conference would be held in Canberra next year, attracting up to 700 delegates. It was his first official duty after being named national president of Museums Australia, the umbrella organisation that advocates for museums and galleries across the nation.

Dr Darryl McIntryre, stepping down as MA President at the MA-AGM last night in Canberra (at the National Gallery), said he was delighted to announce that MA National Council had decided to appoint Andrew Sayers as President of Museums Australia for the forthcoming year - following his own decision to retire early after three years’ leadership of MA - to concentrate more time on his own research projects.

The National Office has been working on getting all the old issues of MA Magazine (previously Museum National) available to members on the MA website.
We now have available Volumes 1 thru 12 on the website - you can view the contents and download the whole magazine to read (remember to log in). Non-members are able to view the contents, but only members can view the magazine.

This is a reminder that nominations for this year’s IMAGinE Awards for NSW and ACT museums and galleries close on 22 August. Putting in a nomination has a number of benefits. It encourages museums to reflect on what they have been doing over the past 12 months. It makes it possible for them to celebrate the good things they have been doing. It publicises the museum. And it may generate ideas for future work.
