The Queensland Disaster Information Network (Q-Dis) is a group for sharing information on disaster preparedness and planning. Members of this group can participate in discussions and ask questions about how their disaster planning process is going, raise problems hypothetically if need be but generally communicate on issues related to preparing for and surviving incidents no matter what their scale.

Q-Dis is not a response network but it is hoped that by sharing information related to risk management and disaster planning we will all be better informed, prepared and connected in the event of a smaller or larger scale incident affecting our heritage and cultural collections.

Thanks for the welcome Christine.

By the way, I'm a consulting professional archivist now based in Cairns (after 8 years in Alice Springs). The humidity is killing me but my skin is so better hydrated than before. I've been looking at material at the Cairns Historical Society - what a great collection and a great bunch of volunteers.

Cheers

Pat (now the Archives Queen of the Tropics)

Hi Christine
I note the mention of the Courier Mail article. John and I are thrilled with this story as it is very well written and the writer and photographer are to be congratulated.

The museum is planning an open day to allow residents to view photos that have been collected during and after the flood

Cheers
Margaret

Hi Christine

Thanks for thinking of us at Theodore

John says to tell you that he has either gone deaf because he can't hear, or blind 'caus he can't find any evidence of those pesky little termites at present. Wow!! Hope it stays that way.

As for me I am still working on photos. The Museum has been a little quiet as everyone is catching up at home

Cheers

Margaret

Hi Christine,

Thanks for getting in contact.

This is a great idea for a group, and there is some really interesting and useful information available. So many people affected by these issues - it's great to have a place to go to find information to help put people at ease.

Cheers,

Jo.

I will say hello to Gordon for you. Although he's not doing much work with converge these days, we're still in contact with him - he's a great source of knowledge for the region.

Hello Christine

Thanks for allowing me to join manexus. John and I had a visit from Bronwyn Roper today and she made the comment that we have been very lucky with museum and the flood has had little impact - not even the smell of mould. Mind you we have not been looking for termites as yet. I have lots of photos and am wondering which is the best way to get them into you.

Cheers

Margaret

Hello Christine,

Thanks for your contact. It's nice to be able to put a face to a name.

Atherton Chinatown fared well  through Cyclone Yasi but  it made me even more aware of  what should or might be done in the face of a threat to our site. As is said.... We are at the mercy of the Gods.

Cheers,

Rhonda

Q-Dis is a great idea! Lets all remember that disasters can be small as well as big - spilling water on a unique photograph can as heart breaking as an air-conditoning leak in the collection store...
