Small museum inspiration at Museums Australia conference

#ma2015syd conference blogRefreshing ideasThose working in small museums and remote locations frequently inspire those working in the larger institutions. Remember, at the 2009 Museums Australia’s national conference, the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology’s Edith Cuffe, who livened us up by showing us how to create something out of nothing with an annual medieval dress-up festival in the unlikely State of Queensland? The national conference has also lifted the veil on issues of great…See More

Bill Constable: do you know more?

Do you know the whereabouts of an unpublished book by the Australian stage and film designer, William (Bill) Constable? The Wolanski Foundation and Olga Sedneva are searching for the manuscript or publisher’s proofs or other material relating to William Constable’s Constable: Design for Film, Opera and Ballet Settings and Costumes, a book scheduled to be published by Harry Hewett Publishing Melbourne about 20 years ago. The foundation assisted Olga with her University of Sydney Master of…See More

Small museum inspiration at Museums Australia conference

Thanks Paul. Have a look at our Blue MountainsHeritage.com.au website and our Newsletter, Heritage, which you can access through the website. This will tell you who we are and what we are doing. At present we focus on making the Blue Mountains City Council Heritage services more effective for the public. On 25 September we begin our series of political party policy meetings. From the letters from the LIberals and the Minister for Planning (Keneally),there is obviously much to do to get them to understand what heritage is and what needs to be done. Our organisation is a mix of historical associations and museums etc plus individual professionally qualified and experienced museum and heritage people with national and international experience.

Best wishes

At the last NSW State (and Federal) elections, Heritage was conspicuously absent from any party's public statements, as far as I was aware. What action is MA taking to change this attitude among parties. I would add that in the Blue Mountains we have a meeting of our members and others on 25 September at which the Shadow Representative for Heritage will speak on the Liberal Heritage policy.
