I am giving a paper at the MA National Conference titled:
What’s the fuss over the buzz: engaging, participatory, relevant, magnetic museums
The current aspirational buzz words swirl around our heads but what does it mean to be an engaging, participatory magnetic museum? With the desire to become an engaging museum and shake off the shackles of conservatism, organisations must become less risk-averse, more savvy in their operations and most importantly develop a willingness to connect both internally and externally in a meaningful, respectful and relevant way. As a sector we are competing with multifarious attractions and distractions. We cannot afford to be complacent.
The paper will deliver the results of interviews conducted with museum workers and museum patrons who responded to the buzz words, engagement, participatory, relevance, magnetic
Are you able to respond to these buzz words and give me your opinion on how the sector is travelling?
What kind of projects/exhibitions/programs embody participatory, co-curated, engagement models in museums/galleries. Do we have Australian case studies that actually reflect this movement/way of thinking?
Hope you can help
