MA 2012 conference - looking for speaker suggestions

As some of you are already aware, the annual Museums Australia conference will be held in Adelaide in 2012. It will be at the University of Adelaide from the 24 to 28 September 2012.

The theme of the 2012 conference is research and collections in a connected world. The conference will use this theme to explore the research activities and potential in institutions like ours. We will look into research:

  • By museums: the role of collections and curatorial expertise in understanding current global challenges such as climate change;
  • With museums: research collaborations with industry, academia, government and community;
  • About museums: how the process and outcomes of research can transform the social, economic and educational role of museums in a rapidly-changing world.

Within this overarching theme, session threads will embrace natural history collections, cultural collections, the arts, heritage sites, specialist collections, community museums, visitor research, social history, living collections, community initiatives, digital heritage and interdisciplinary ventures.

We’re on the lookout for good international, Australian and local speakers that address this theme. Do you know of an interesting project or research that is going on here or elsewhere that you’d love to hear more about, or promote to our colleagues? Have you seen or heard about an excellent speaker that you’d love to bring to Adelaide?

If you have any suggestions, either comment on this thread or send your suggestions in an email to our Exec Officer: anne [at]

If you are interested in keeping updated on the preparations for the conference, visit to be added to our mailing list.
